Quarantine officials are culling tens of thousands chickens in Haenam County of South Jeolla Province after some of them tested positive for avian influenza(AI).
Quarantine officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, South Jeolla Province and Haenam County began on Thursday morning culling roughly 40-thousand chickens at four farms in the area.
Authorities also plan to bury some 75-thousand eggs laid by the chickens and 30 tons of chicken feed.
Officials have restricted the movement of some 210-thousand chickens and ducks within a ten-kilometer radius of the farm where the first AI outbreak was confirmed. They are also boosting quarantine and monitoring activities.
