Chivu Appointed New Head Coach of Inter

Milan: Cristian Chivu has been officially announced as the new head coach of Inter, succeeding Simone Inzaghi who departed after four seasons.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Chivu has signed an initial two-year contract that will see him lead the Nerazzurri until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Chivu returns to Inter following a four-month tenure with Parma in Serie A, where he successfully guided the team to safety in the final weekend of the 2024-25 campaign. His departure from Parma was confirmed shortly after, with Chivu expressing his farewells to the club.

Having spent the last seven years of his playing career at San Siro with Inter, Chivu also began his coaching career in Milan. Between 2018 and 2024, he managed various youth teams, including the U14s, U17s, U18s, and the Primavera side. He took charge of Parma in February 2025 but has now returned to assume the first-team head coach position at Inter.

Chivu's appointment follows Simone Inzaghi's departure, which came six days prior. Inzaghi has since taken over as head coach of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. His exit from Inter came three days after a heavy 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, marking the end of a challenging season.

During the season, Inter was in contention for a treble but was eliminated from the Coppa Italia in the semi-final by rivals Milan, lost the Serie A title to Napoli by just one point, and suffered a defeat to PSG in the Champions League final. Inzaghi's four-year tenure at Inter concluded with one Serie A title, two Coppa Italia trophies, three Supercoppa Italiana titles, and two Champions League final runners-up medals in 2023 and 2025.
