Cotton picking in Turkmenistan will start on September 7

At a Cabinet meeting on September 2, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov gave his blessing to start harvesting cotton in Akhal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary velayats on September 7, and in Dashoguz velayat on September 14, the state information agency TDH reports .

Last year, cotton picking began a day later - on the 8th and 15th, respectively.

As Chronicle of Turkmenistan previously reported , from August 18, tenants in the Lebap velayat must collect at least 25 kg of cotton from their fields every day. This is done so that immediately after the announcement of the beginning of the cotton harvest, it would be possible to film a TV report on the first harvest, which is already being transported to the ginneries.

The topic of cotton picking was discussed at a meeting with heads of regions on August 29. Then the head of state spoke about preparations for the celebration of the 31st anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence (celebrated on September 27).

“Following the traditions of our people, such dates are met with labor victories. Therefore, our brave farmers and grain growers are working tirelessly these days,” the TDH quoted the president as saying.

Recall that last year, President Gurbnaguly Berdimuhamedov ordered the planned volumes of cotton to be handed over by the anniversary Independence Day, although officials usually report on the implementation of the state plan in late October - early November. As a result, in 2021, the head of state was reported on the implementation of the cotton plan only on November 11.
