According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the hearings, presided over by Judge Zeynal Aghayev, featured testimonies from victims recounting severe mistreatment and atrocities. Video evidence was presented, depicting Armenian military operations and the occupation of Kalbajar. One video featured Monte Melkonyan discussing military advancements and resistance faced from Azerbaijani forces.
Victims Zabil Safarov and Nasimi Safarov provided harrowing accounts of torture and brutality witnessed and experienced during the occupation. Zabil Safarov described being taken hostage, witnessing the murder of his grandmother, and enduring severe torture, which left him with lasting physical damage. Nasimi Safarov recounted Armenian attacks on his village and the subsequent suffering of his family and community.
Further testimonies detailed the destruction and looting of villages, as well as the murder and torture of Azerbaijani civilians. Victims described the forced labor, severe beatings, and psychological trauma endured while in captivity. Evidence presented also highlighted the systemic and organized nature of the aggression and war crimes committed.
The court proceedings continue, with the next hearings scheduled for May 12. The accused face numerous charges under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, reflecting the gravity of the alleged crimes committed during the conflict.
