COVID-19 patients from provinces get admitted to the infectious diseases hospital in Ashgabat

Patients from regional medical institutions, who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are being admitted to the infectious diseases hospital of Ashgabat. On 12 May, 2020 Radio “Azatlyk” reported that the number of deaths has significantly increased over the past couple of weeks.

For example, a week ago two women from Dashoguz diagnosed with coronavirus were admitted to the infectious diseases hospital. In early March at least two Turkmen nationals who had tested positive for COVID-19 underwent a course of treatment there.

The Radio also reports a sharp increase in the number of deaths, overcrowded morgues and an increasing number of new burial sites in cemeteries.

According to official statistics, there are still no confirmed coronavirus cases in Turkmenistan.

According to sources of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, as of mid April, 2020 at least seven COVID-19 patients were undergoing a course of treatment in the quarantine zone of Turkmenabat. In late April it became known that two of them had recovered.
