The ferry service between Makhachkala and Turkmenbashi is scheduled to open in 2020, TASS reported October 7, citing the acting Minister of Economy of Dagestan, Haji Sultanov .
- Now the Turkmen company Turkmen Milli Logistics is dealing with the issue of ferry services. By April-May 2020, we are awaiting a solution, Sultanov noted.
The ferry can carry up to 1 million tons of cargo per year.
We are getting opportunities to load this ferry on the way back. These are rice, our soft drinks, mineral water, and products of our industrial enterprises. There will be transit cargoes from Turkmenistan, which will first go through our port and then through Novorossiysk to Europe, the official said.
The agency reports that in August, during the first Caspian Economic Forum, the adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Serdar Durdyev reported that the republic hopes to create a ferry service with a number of Russian regions, including the Astrakhan region and the regions of the North Caucasus, in particular Dagestan.
Recall that the restoration of the ferry service between the ports of Makhachkala and Turkmenbashi was already discussed in May 2018 in Moscow during a meeting between the head of Rosmorrechflot Viktor Olersky and the head of the Turkmen Logistics Association Mele Bekmuradov .
In 2015, two ferries arrived from Turkmenistan to Astrakhan, but then the message was suspended due to the lack of passengers.
