DAPA Denies Fake Parts Supply Allegations

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration has denied a local media report that a U.S. defense company supplied some 110 fake parts to the South Korean military.

The administration said in a statement Thursday that the quality of the parts cited was verified and confirmed by the South Korean military. The state-run weapons procurement agency explained that a firsthand inspection revealed no problems with the U.S. supplier's quality management and production capabilities.

The agency added that it is keeping tabs on developments in the U.S. government's investigation and will take appropriate action if a problem is found.

A South Korean newspaper raised suspicions earlier that a U.S. defense company infringed on another firm's technology rights to copy its products and then supplied the South Korean military with the counterfeit parts. Among them are components for 500MD helicopters owned by the South Korean Army.
