In 2012 the Dashoguz soccer team Turan had already been excluded from participating in Turkmenistan's national soccer championship since it failed to secure funding.
Later the local authorities obliged major organizations and entrepreneurs to dip into their pockets, and somehow the team started playing again.
However, in the summer of 2016 salaries of football players and coaches halved. For example, coaches whose monthly salaries amounted to 1000 manats ($286 using the exchange rate of the Central Bank), are now paid 400 manats. The team is no longer paid bonuses for winning games.
We are receiving reports that coaches and many players have left the team and it is not known whether the northern province will be represented in this year's soccer championship.
