With a massive antigovernment protest scheduled on Saturday, the deputy prime minister for social affairs pleaded for a peaceful gathering.
Deputy Prime Minister Lee Joon-sik on Friday released a statement, expressing concerns that the rally might turn violent.
While acknowledging public disappointment over the Choi Soon-sil scandal, the deputy PM stressed that the government is making every effort to lead society in the right direction.
Lee also asked for the public's support in normalizing the operations of the government, citing economic uncertainties following the U.S. presidential election and growing North Korean threats.
