A telephone conversation has been held between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.
The Russian Prime Minister warmly congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov on being elected to his third term in office, having wished him success in his important work for the benefit of the people of Turkmenistan.
Appreciative of the congratulations and well-wishes, the President of the country has confirmed his commitment to the long-standing relations of friendship between the two nations and stressed that cooperation with the Russian Federation has been and will remain one of the strategic priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign-policy strategy.
During the conversation, the head of state Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation exchanged their opinions on greater cooperation. The President of Turkmenistan and the Russian Prime Minister identified top-priority areas of interstate relations, having noted the importance of new joint projects.
Special emphasis was placed on the role of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation in promoting cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, sport and tourism.
While exchanging their views on a number of topical issues of international and regional policy, the parties expressed mutual willingness of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation to enhance cooperation within authoritative international organizations and agencies.
