Emigration. Your stories on the website of Chronicles of Turkmenistan

According to the official data published by the Russian State Statistics Office, the number of Turkmenistan's nationals entering Russia has doubled in the course of the past six years.

In 2013, during the peak third quarter, slightly over 16,000 Turkmen citizens entered Russia using visas of various categories whereas in 2019 this number has already exceeded 32 thousand.

The fact that a person uses a visa to enter the country does not imply that he/she will stay in Russia and will not return to his home country but the graph is correlated with the deterioration of the economic situation in Turkmenistan and have one foot out of the door sentiment in the Turkmen society that correspondents of Chronicles of Turkmenistan are reporting about.

Apart from Russia, quite a large number of Turkmen nationals are trying to depart to Turkey where they are allowed to stay up to 30 days without a visa. During this time they seek to legalize their status, obtain a permanent residence permit and find a job.

In Azerbaijan the number of Turkmen tourists in the first six months of the year amounted to 21 thousand people, a 85% increase compared to the same period last year, the website of Business of Turkmenistan reports.

The numbers are selfexplanatory but behind the statistics there are real stories of people who left their home country forever or temporarily, either to pursue educational opportunities or in search of jobs. Their stories might be serious, sad or sometimes funny, but they are always real.
