As from December, Ashgabat house administrations are no longer issuing certificates against the installation of public utilities meters.
Sources at Chronicles of Turkmenistan think that the reason behind such a decision is that all available meters have been sold out.
Let us recall that after the benefits were abolished, residents had toinstall gas, water and electricity meters at their own expense. Those who did not have meters installed were denied issuance of various certificates. For instance, previously a divorce application would not have been accepted by Ashgabat Civil Registry Office if a document certifying the availability of a water meter in an apartment was not presented.
