EU Special Representative for Central Asia to visit Turkmenistan

European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Teri Hakala will visit Turkmenistan. This was announced by the President of the EU Charles Michel in his congratulatory message to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the occasion of the Independence Day, the state news agency TDH reported on September 29 .

The message says that Charles Michel asked Teri Hakal to discuss with the Turkmen government "opportunities to promote regional and bilateral dialogue in key areas during her upcoming visit to Turkmenistan."

“I also asked the Ambassador to represent the EU at the International Conference on Neutrality, which is scheduled to take place on 12 December, ” the EU President said.

Finnish diplomat Teri Hakala took up her new position on July 1, her mandate will last until February 28, 2023.

During her 33-year career, Terhi Hakala has held senior positions in Finland's missions abroad and in the OSCE structures. She was the ambassador of her state to Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia (2004-2007), to India (2009-2012), the head of the OSCE mission in Georgia (2007-2009) and the Finnish mission to the UN structures in Geneva (2016-2020), repeatedly headed Departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Besides Finnish, Terhi Hakala speaks fluent Russian, English and Swedish.
