Former Saenuri Party Chairman Kim Moo-sung has criticized party leaders over their decision to hold a national convention on January 21st to elect new leadership.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the former chief called the plan a "shallow trick" to avoid the current political crisis stemming from the Choi Soon-sil scandal.
Ruling party members who are critical of their leadership held a meeting on Sunday where many of them demanded drastic measures to win back the public's trust such as disbanding the party.
Kim said although he understands the people's calls for the president's resignation, the best way to end the chaos and normalize state affairs is to impeach President Park Geun-hye according to the Constitution.
