Excise taxes on alcohol to increase again in Turkmenistan

On December 18, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov amended the Tax Code by increasing excise rates on alcoholic beverages, Gundogar news publication reported .

The changes were published in the December 24 issue of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

Under the new rules, the rate of excise taxes on beer produced in Turkmenistan will rise from 24 to 26% of the cost. For wine and other grape drinks with a strength of up to 20%, the excise rate increases from 31 to 34%, for a strength of 20 to 30% - from 48 to 53%, for a strength of 30% - from 61 to 67%.

The amount of excise tax on imported alcoholic beverages is increasing even more. For beer - from 73 to 80%, but not less than 8 manats per liter. For wine and grape alcoholic drinks - from 133 to 146%. At the same time, for a liter of drink with a strength of less than 20%, the minimum excise tax was increased from 31 to 34 manats, with a strength of more than 20% - from 48 to 53 manats.

The excise tax per liter of imported alcohol used for the production of alcoholic beverages has been increased from $ 6 to $ 7 per liter.

In November last year, excise rates on alcoholic beverages have already increased by about the same amount.
