The official website of the OSCE office in Ashgabat reports that on 56 June the OSCE office in Ashgabat hosted a seminar devoted to funding models for television for representatives of Turkmenistan's State Committee for TV, Radiobroadcasting and Cinematography, the Mejlis members (the parliament), the Ministry of Finance and Economy as well as other agencies.
The OSCE experts presented the funding models such as subscription systems, annual TV license fees, microfinancing, digital services tax and hybrid models.
Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat Natalya Drozd said that the transition to new models of TV funding is essential for the further democratization of society and development of market relations, and the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat is ready to provide expert support in this important process.
Let us recall that in July 2017 President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov instructed that starting from 2018 the funding of radio and television channels from the state budget will be gradually ceased within four years.
In May the OSCE organized the seminar on media law reforms in the digital age.
It is reported that the seminar addressed the issues pertaining to digital environment and mass media, the Internet and protection of personal data, trends and challenges related to digital environment and new media outlets.
