The Fifth Annual Research Forum of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) opened in Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday with representatives of more than 50 leading policy think tanks, academia and the private sector from the 21 COMESA member countries participating.
The forum, which is being held under the theme, Harnessing the demographic dividend for social-economic-transformation and deep regional integration in COMESA through academia-industry linkages", will see the experts reviewing and discussing 11 research papers covering key regional integration issues focusing on the digital economy in the context of the Tripartite and African continental free trade areas.
The forums is sponsored by the COMESA Competition Commission and the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Since 2014, COMESA has been organizing its Annual Research Forums under the Africa Capacity Building (ACBF) funded project on Enhancing Capacity of the COMESA Secretariat to Support Economic and Trade Policy Analysis and Research.
