BAKU: Azerbaijan is advancing its renewable energy infrastructure with the development of its first industrial-scale battery system, a move aimed at integrating approximately 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy into the national grid. Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov announced the progress as part of broader efforts to modernize and enhance the country’s energy system.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Soltanov highlighted that eight renewable energy projects, collectively capable of delivering around 2 gigawatts, are currently underway. Azerenergy OJSC, the national system operator, is spearheading the integration of these capacities through innovations and modernization efforts. This initiative is crucial for accommodating the influx of renewable energy sources into the republic’s energy framework.
Soltanov also noted ongoing discussions with the World Bank focused on the integration of renewable energy sources. These talks include plans to construct new substations and transmission lines, fur
ther strengthening the energy infrastructure. The development of the industrial-scale battery system marks a significant step, as efforts continue to identify a company to undertake its construction.
