Five European countries and Azerbaijan to sign agreement on gas infrastructure expansion

Bulgarian Energy Minister Rosen Hristov announced the signing an agreement on the expansion of gas infrastructure by representatives of six countries, including Azerbaijan, in Sofia on April 25-26. "An agreement on the expansion of gas infrastructure between several countries - Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan - is to be signed in Sofia on April 25-26," Hristov said on April 12, quoted by the Bulgarian Energy Ministry. The head of the department added that gas from Azerbaijan can be delivered through Bulgaria to Eastern and Central Europe. Currently, Bulgaria meets half of its needs through pipeline gas from Azerbaijan. It comes through the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector. According to Hristov, Bulgaria has the opportunity to receive LNG through the terminal in the Greek Alexandropoulos, through the Turkish port of Marmara-Ereglisi and Azerbaijani natural gas through the Bulgarian-Greek intersystem gas pipeline. Azerbaijani gas has been sold in European markets since December 31, 2020. Currently, the importers of Azerbaijani gas in Europe are Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, and Romania.
