A new city, the capital of the Akhal velayat, is being built 30 kilometers west of Ashgabat, which was inspected by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on October 21 and approved a number of construction projects.
Having studied satellite images before and after the start of construction work, the journalists of the Meteozhurnal publication found out that more than 300 hectares of orchards and vineyards were destroyed for the construction of a new city.
“The gardens and vineyards were planted several decades ago and before the irrigation collector was supplied from the Karakum canal, they were irrigated with the waters of the mountain river Chulinka (Altyab), which for millennia carried a mass of sedimentary rocks to the foothill valley with the formation of fertile soils,” the newspaper writes.
