Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and China discussed gas supplies and terrorism in Afghanistan

The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov , sent to China from March 29 to 31, takes part in the third meeting of the heads of foreign affairs agencies of countries bordering Afghanistan, as well as in the work of the Dialogue "Afghanistan + Afghanistan Neighboring Countries".

The meeting, chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi , is attended by the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaki . Foreign ministers of Indonesia and Qatar are also invited as guests.

China hopes that the meeting will encourage countries in the region and the international community to step up support for the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan to help the country achieve peace and stability sooner, Xinhua news agency reported.

During the visit, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan met with his Chinese counterpart. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at the meeting between Rashid Meredov and Wang Yi, the parties discussed cooperation in the field of natural gas supplies.

“China has always been a reliable partner of Turkmenistan and a stable export market,” Wang Yi was quoted by the press service of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, noting that both sides expressed their readiness to expand cooperation in the fuel and energy complex in all areas, including increasing the volume and scale of energy cooperation, cooperation in the field of green energy, in the supply of technical equipment, etc.

Speaking about the situation in Afghanistan, Meredov said that he supported Kabul's efforts to clearly separate the government from terrorist organizations, as well as the fight of the Afghan authorities against terrorist forces, including the East Turkestan Islamic Movement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan did not disclose the details of the meeting , limiting itself to reporting that the parties discussed the implementation of bilateral agreements between the heads of state reached in 2021-2022.
