BAKU: A group of NGOs representing civil society at the 'UN Summit of the Future,' held September 20-24, 2024, in New York at the UN headquarters, issued a statement advocating for inclusivity, highlighting Azerbaijan's significant role in combating global climate change as the host of COP29, Trend reports. The statement was endorsed by representatives from 44 NGOs across 22 countries. The statement titled "Healing Together: Inclusive Pathways to a Sustainable Future" emphasizes the need for prioritizing inclusivity in discussions and actions leading up to COP29. Meaningful participation from all parties in decision-making processes is essential for advancing the 2030 sustainable development agenda. The statement calls for the voices of communities from the most vulnerable countries affected by climate change to be heard and actively included in policymaking processes. This also encompasses increasing representation of youth, women, and other groups. "Civil society organizations play a crucial role in amp lifying these voices. We urge all parties to prioritize inclusivity at COP29, ensuring fairness and equality in decisions. These decisions must be urgent and practical, reflecting the pressing nature of the climate crisis. We express solidarity with vulnerable communities worldwide facing the impacts of climate change with limited adaptation resources. As representatives of civil society, international organizations, and climate justice activists, we stand ready to support the COP29 Presidency in advancing an agenda that advances diversity, inclusion, and gender equality. In addition, we stand ready to collaborate with local civil society organizations before, during, and after COP29 to ensure that the voices of vulnerable groups and other key stakeholders, including women and girls, are at the center of climate discussions. Now is the time to take decisive steps, and we stand ready to work with all stakeholders to translate commitments into concrete results. Let's build a sustainable future that respects th e rights of all people and protects our planet for future generations.
