On 1 July, 2019 Gazprom concluded a fiveyear gas supply contract with Turkmengas, the official website of the Russian company reported on 3 July.
The volumes of Turkmen gas supplies are reported to amount to 5,5 billion cubic meters a year. The price details have not been disclosed.
It should be emphasized that two days before signing the agreement, Gazprom Chairperson Alexey Miller reported that in 2019, 2020 and 2021 the volume of gas supplies from Central Asia will amount to approximately 20 billion cubic meters of gas a year. In 2018, when Gazprom did not import Turkmen gas, the Russian gas company, according to the news agency RNS, purchased 19,3 billion cubic meters of gas from Central Asia.
It remains unclear whether it means that the volume of gas imports from Turkmenistan has increased at the expense of supplies from other Central Asia countries or whether the situation has changed and plans to import Central Asian gas have been reviewed.
