Baku: The Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, emphasized the critical importance of reaching an agreement on the final document at the COP29 climate conference in Baku. She proposed the creation of an intercontinental coalition to address the vast damage and geopolitical issues resulting from climate change worldwide, APA reports. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Baerbock highlighted the urgent need for the international community to intensify efforts to meet the 1.5-degree target set by the Paris Agreement. She noted that the conference is at a crucial juncture, with the final document still pending approval. Baerbock stressed that even minimal progress is vital and proposed the formation of a coalition that transcends national boundaries, as no single country can tackle the climate crisis alone. Furthermore, Baerbock underscored the importance of reaching an agreement on climate finance to support countries struggling with climate change. She pointed out that mitigatio n and adaptation strategies are key components of every climate conference, with investments in renewable energy sources amounting to approximately $2 trillion thus far. Baerbock concluded by stating that the European Union is committed to enhancing its role in climate finance and aims to transform Europe into a "climate continent."
