In order to ensure uninterrupted water supply to the sectors of the economy, the rational use of water resources and the creation of additional water reserves, a government commission on water supply has been established in Turkmenistan and its composition has been approved. The corresponding resolution was signed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at a government meeting.
As Deputy Prime Minister for Agro-Industrial Complex Annageldi Yazmyradov said at the meeting, the new commission will address issues of increasing water reserves, analyze the situation on the Amu Darya and the Karakum River, take measures to improve their water flow, as well as supply the population with drinking water through the construction of desalination plants. .
Most of the territory of Turkmenistan is occupied by the Karakum Desert.
