Green energy sector – attractive career choice for enthusiastic people, says MP

'Climate change has emerged as one of the biggest environmental challenges facing the world. It is only through solidarity that the countries will avoid the global warming that our planet is facing,' Parvana Aliyeva, Member of the COP29 Organizing Committee, MP of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis, told AZERTAC. According to her, the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty on climate change adopted in 1997, offers a broad application of estimation of greenhouse gas emissions. She added that the Article 6 of the Paris Agreement enables countries to account for trade in reducing greenhouse emissions, as well as encourages the creation of reliable private sector carbon markets. 'These matters are in the spotlight of the COP29 discussions,' she said. 'The use of green energy contributes to reducing climate change and limiting global warming. Currently, the parties are sparing no effort to keep the 1.5 degrees target within reach, through the implementation of the provisions of the Paris Agreement. A primary way to fulf il the obligations of this Agreement is through the use of alternative and renewable energy sources in energy production, fossil fuel phase-out, and switching to the green economy,' Valiyeva noted, adding that development of green energy industry facilitates the creation of new jobs. The MP also said that Azerbaijan enjoys great potential in terms of renewables, adding that there are favorable opportunities in the country, enabling the transition to the green economy. She also described the 'Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development', determined by President Ilham Aliyev and adopted on February of 2021, as the strategic basis of the country's policy of production of renewables. 'Azerbaijan's Socio-Economic Development Strategy for 2022-2026 envisages increasing the share of renewable energy sources in electricity production by 24 percent by 2026, and by 30 percent by 2030. This factor contributes to advancing the green agenda in the country, creating new career opportunities and jo bs,' Valiyeva added. Source: Azerbaijan State News Agency
