On September 2, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Kiyoshi Ejima . The meeting was also attended by the Japanese ambassador to Turkmenistan Hiroyuki Yamamoto , the state information agency TDH reported .
At the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and in the industrial sector.
Ejima thanked the head of state for inviting the Japanese delegation to take part in the opening ceremony of a new power plant, which "will work for the benefit not only of Turkmenistan, but will also contribute to the socio-economic development of Afghanistan."
On the same day, Kiyoshi Ejima discussed bilateral cooperation with Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation Serdar Berdimuhamedov .
At a cabinet meeting on August 27, Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov , who oversees the construction, industrial and energy complex, reported to the President on the preparations for the opening ceremony of a gas turbine power plant in the Chardzhevsky etrap of the Lebap velayat.
In the fall of 2020, it was reported that a new "ultra-modern" gas turbine power plant was being built in the Lebap velayat with the participation of Japanese companies .
