On March 15, the Central Election Commission announced the results of voting in the presidential elections in Turkmenistan, according to which Serdar Berdimuhamedov , who received 72.97% of the votes , the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of finances, and who is also the son of the acting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov , won .
After that, according to the state information agency TDH , the heads of neighboring and friendly states began to call father and son Berdimuhamedov with congratulations. Among them are the presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin , Turkey - Recep Tayyip Erdogan , Kazakhstan - Kasym Zhomart Tokayev , Uzbekistan - Shavkat Mirziyoyev , Kyrgyzstan - Sadyr Japarov and Tajikistan - Emomali Rahmon .
It should be noted that both Gurbanguly and Serdar Berdimuhamedov are called “president” by TDH. However, the "leader of the nation" so far is only Berdimuhamedov Sr.
The conversations followed the same scenario - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov “with satisfaction” said that Serdar Berdimuhamedov won, and he himself will now continue his active work as chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh (upper house of parliament) of Turkmenistan.
Then Berdimuhamedov Sr. passed the phone to his son, who also accepted congratulations and assured his colleagues that he would continue his father's course towards developing interstate cooperation.
