Head of Turkish construction company Polimeks Erol Tabanca returns to Turkmenistan

On June 27, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov , and then his father, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesha Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Turkish businessmen who arrived in Ashgabat to participate in celebrations in honor of the Day of Workers of Culture and Art, as well as the poetry of Magtymguly Fragi, the state information agency TDH reports .

Among the representatives of Turkish business were the heads of the companies operating in Turkmenistan Çalik Holding Ahmet Chalyk and Rönesans Holding Erman Ylycak .

Together with them, the head of Polimeks Insaat Taahhüt ve Sanayi Ticaret A.S unexpectedly returned to Turkmenistan. Erol Tabanja , with whom the Berdimuhamedovs discussed the prospects for bilateral partnership in the context of the priorities of the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan .

“The course taken by the country towards industrialization, a radical modernization of the sectoral infrastructure , and the implementation of a comprehensive architectural and urban planning concept create good prerequisites for stimulating effective business contacts,” TDH writes.

Previously, Polimeks was one of the main building contractors in Turkmenistan. However, in February 2018, Chronicles of Turkmenistan reported that the Turkish construction company Polimex, to which the contract had been awarded, suddenly suspended work, and its head, Erol Tabanca, fled Turkmenistan. According to HT's sources, the Turkmen side offered Tabanj to build the project with the company's own funds and then cover the costs from the profits that the toll road is expected to generate in the future.

As reported, at that time, Polimex and many other subcontracting companies could not fully receive money from the Turkmen side for the facilities already put into operation. In particular, for the new airport in Ashgabat and a number of facilities erected for the Asian Games-2017.

Due to financial difficulties, Erol Tabanja decided to stop cooperation with the Turkmen side and leave the country. At the end of December 2017, the personal plane of the head of the Turkish company was detained at the Ashgabat airport. Turkmen representatives tried to prevent Tabandzha's departure, accusing him of not fulfilling contracts and fleeing the country.
