Baku: The solo exhibition 'Reflection of Eternity', by Brazilian artist and sculptor Luiz de Souza was inaugurated at the Heydar Aliyev Center, APA reports. The exhibition features the artist's works in painting and sculpture, including pieces displayed in Azerbaijan for the first time.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Anar Alakbarov, Director of the Heydar Aliyev Center, highlighted that Luiz de Souza's artworks have been showcased at exhibitions worldwide. "Several new pieces, presented specifically for the exhibition at the Heydar Aliyev Center, are on display in Baku," he stated.
Manuel Adalberto Carlos Montenegro Lopes da Cruz, Ambassador of Brazil to Azerbaijan, expressed gratitude for the initiative to hold the exhibition at the Heydar Aliyev Center. He emphasized the creativity of the Brazilian artist, noting, "Looking at Luiz de Souza's creative work, we see how professionally he combines shades, diverse figures, perspectives, and other techniques."
The Brazilian artist shared his admiration for Azerbaijan's rich history. Speaking about his works, he said, "The greatest impact in my life is time. Creating my works has never been easy. Sometimes I create expeditiously, other times at a slow pace. Sometimes I am debating with myself. Also, having the exhibition open on my birthday here at the Heydar Aliyev Center, brought me immense joy."
The leitmotif of the pieces on display stems from the artist's relationship with time. Luiz de Souza believes that while painting, time passes differently-not according to mathematical calculation, but through a unique dimension. Among Souza's new works are 'Time Travelers,' reflecting the idea of going back and living the past differently, and 'Submerged in Time,' symbolizing how vast time is compared to human society.
Luiz de Souza's passion for art began at the age of three when he started painting and sculpting. His works have gained international acclaim and are part of private collections. His art draws influences from Johannes Vermeer's use of color and light, Salvador Dal's imaginative style, and Michelangelo Caravaggio's dramatic lighting.
The "Reflection of Eternity" exhibition is open to visitors at the Heydar Aliyev Center until April 1, 2026.
