Baku: Hidden carbon taxes are a reality in Azerbaijan, according to Samira Musayeva, Deputy Head of Azerbaijan's State Tax Service. Speaking at the Sustainable Development Goals Dialogue, themed "Sounds of the Future: Climate Action and Coordination of Efforts Towards Global Goals," Musayeva explained how the country employs indirect means to achieve its climate-related goals. These hidden taxes manifest through fuel, mining, and road taxes, serving as a form of carbon taxation despite the absence of explicit carbon taxes. According to Azeri-Press news agency, Musayeva highlighted that 42% of emissions in Azerbaijan are subject to these hidden carbon taxes. This approach is part of the country's strategy for mitigation and adaptation, aligning with its sustainable development objectives. As a developing nation, Azerbaijan relies on these indirect measures to contribute to global climate action efforts.
