BAKU: A high-level delegation from the Czech Republic will participate in COP29, the Czech Ambassador to Azerbaijan Milan Sedlacek said at an event dedicated to Czech Statehood Day in Baku today, Trend reports.

“Economic exchange between the two countries is growing. Azerbaijan has become the largest supplier of oil to our refineries. Significant trade contracts have also been concluded. Yesterday, I inaugurated a workshop of the Czech Moser company . Additionally, an anthology of Czech stories will be published in the Azerbaijani language,” he also said.

The ambassador noted that contacts, meetings, and discussions between high-ranking officials of both states are ongoing. Consultations have been held at the level of deputy foreign ministers, and communication between members of parliament continues.

Data from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that trade turnover between the two countries in January-August of this year reached $778.759 million (an increase of 32.77 percent). Exports accounte
d for $740.279 million (a growth of 39.5 percent), while imports amounted to $38.48 million (a decrease of 31.13 percent).

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70-80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The COP-the Conference of the Parties-is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany’s Berlin, with its secretariat in Bonn.
