An employee of the Akhal velayat khyakimlik's office and local residents told correspondents of Chronicles of Turkmenistan that after Serdar Berdymukhammedov had been appointed khyakim of Akhal velayat, there were some changes in the work of the administration.
The administrative centre of Akhal velayat is located in the city of Annau, approximately eight kilometers from Ashgabat. Berdymukhammedov junior arrives to the office in a tainted glass vehicle escorted by security guards, actually copying the Presidential cortege.
An employee of one of the velayat administration departments reported that when Berdymukhammedov enters or leaves the building of the khyakimlik's office, none of the employees is allowed to leave their work place. Security guards keep vigil in front of the khyakim's office, which has not been a common practice under the former khyakim.
In the meantime only a few administration officials are allowed to enter the khyakim's office. All employees are warned that they are prohibited from leaving their offices for no reason and if they do go outside their offices, they should keep quiet.
The head of the administration places special emphasis on preparing for and holding various festivities (chare). His favourite expression used in conversations with his subordinates is I'll break your neck, the man said.
An Aktau resident said that he tried to get an appointment with the khyakim but he was informed that neither khyakim nor his deputies any longer receive visitors on personal matters.
How will the velayat's executives find out about the needs and problems of its residents if they are reluctant to meet with us? the man asks.
The residents of the region are convinced that the President's son will not remain in office for a long time. According to some estimates, he will be occupying this post for six months the most and then he will be transferred to another highranking position.
Let us recall that on 17 June President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov appointed his son Serdar khyakim of Akhal velayat. Serdar had been occupying the position of a deputy khyakim for six months.
