The training seminar "Practical application of new laboratory equipment and capacity building of the environmental monitoring and control system" was held for employees of chemical laboratories of the Environmental Control Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan within the framework of a joint project of UNDP and the Ministry "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza ". The UNDP project specialists discussed with the workshop participants the technical aspects of the existing environmental monitoring system in Turkmenistan and familiarized themselves with the methods of using new equipment purchased during the project to control environmental pollution.
According to a UNDP official, this equipment was purchased to assist the work of specialists in environmental laboratories of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan. Their use of the latest modern technologies will make it possible to carry out effective environmental monitoring necessary to protect the environment. The list of purchased equipment includes modern devices and methods for determining the concentrations of pollutants contained in industrial emissions and other sources of atmospheric pollution.
Turkmenistan considers international cooperation in the field of ecology as an important direction of its state policy aimed at creating a favorable social and natural environment for the life of the population. The development of sustainable cities, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, energy efficiency and sustainable waste management are the long-term goals of the country's socio-economic development.
