On February 2, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave a short interview to Yu Xiaoshuang , press attache of the Chinese Embassy in Turkmenistan , who asked questions from Chinese television companies CCTV, CGTN in Russian, the People's Daily newspaper and the Xinhua news agency, the state information agency TDH reports .
In an interview, the President said that he would take part in the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games on February 4. “This decision was dictated primarily by the understanding of the great importance of this event for the entire planet,” the head of state said.
Further, Berdimuhamedov stated that Turkmenistan supports the PRC in matters of the country's territorial integrity, is a supporter of the "one China" policy and stands for the peaceful unification of the country.
The name "China" is claimed by mainland PRC and insular Taiwan (Republic of China). The PRC does not recognize the government of Taiwan and seeks to unite with the island in an autonomous status on the principle of "One country - two systems." At the same time, the current government of Taiwan insists on maintaining the independence of the island.
Touching upon the gas issue, the President noted that Turkmenistan is ready to discuss the possibility of building the 4th branch of the gas pipeline to China and increase the volume of Turkmen gas supplies "taking into account the growing needs of the Chinese economy." The President also spoke about this at the Central Asia-China Summit held on January 24.
In addition, in an interview, Berdimuhamedov spoke without any details about the importance of the transport projects "One Belt - One Road" and "Revival of the Great Silk Road", as well as cooperation with China in the fields of science, culture and education.
