On November 2, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan , Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov , who is on an official visit to Russia, spoke at a meeting of the Federation Council.
The video of the speech was published by the press service of the Sovred.
The ex-president began by conveying greetings and respects to the Federation Council from “His Excellency, the President of Turkmenistan, Seradar Berdimuhamedov .”
He then moved on to the topic of cooperation between Parliament and the exchange of delegations on a regular basis.
“We supported the proposal of the chairman of the Federation Council on the establishment of an Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation at the level of deputy chairmen of the upper houses of the parliaments of the two countries . We consider it timely and meeting the interests of both sides,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
Turning to the topic of economic cooperation, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty noted the positive dynamics of the growth of bilateral trade, the expansion of export-import operations and the implementation of large-scale projects.
Among the main areas of cooperation are energy, transport, high technology and agriculture.
“ The parliamentarians of the two countries need to adopt new laws regulating economic relations , reasonably and balancedly harmonize national legislation and ratify bilateral agreements in a timely manner,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov added.
Speaking about cultural and humanitarian ties, the ex-president emphasized the high respect for the Russian language, literature, cultural and spiritual values of the Russian people in Turkmenistan.
“There are dozens of schools teaching in Russian in the country. There is a unique Turkmen-Russian school named after Pushkin. The Russian language is taught in all secondary general education and higher educational institutions of the country. Today we are working on the design and construction of the Russian Drama Theater in Ashgabat, we are discussing the creation of the Turkmen-Russian University,” he recalled.
It should be noted that there is only one completely Russian-language school in Turkmenistan – the aforementioned Turkmen-Russian school named after Pushkin. Some other schools have one or two classes with the Russian language of instruction, however, due to the large number of applicants, one can get into them only for a bribe.
A day earlier, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko . The parties signed an Agreement on the establishment of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan.
