In Turkmenistan, author of poem about coronavirus sentenced to 5 years

In the summer of 2020, 48-year-old YouTube blogger Murat Ovezov , who wrote a poem about coronavirus, was sentenced to five years in prison in Turkmenistan , Turkmen news reports.

Ovezov was convicted under Article 228 of the Criminal Code of Turkmenistan "Fraud", but sources of the publication cite his speeches on YouTube as a real reason for initiating a case.

Ovezov, a resident of the Gubadag district of the Dashoguz velayat, on his channel talked about what is happening in the country - queues in stores, difficulties with access to the Internet, as well as about the situation with the coronavirus and the restrictions imposed in this regard. In his first video of June 12, 2020, Murat Ovezov spoke about the pandemic and read a poem about the coronavirus "The Bitter Truth."

Since the man was engaged in network marketing, through the channel he also advertised dietary supplements of dubious benefits.

The publication believes that it was the video about what was happening in the country that became the real reason for initiating a case against the man.
