At a working meeting on May 3, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals of the khyakims of the velayats, voiced at the “wishes of the population”, on the construction of mosques and premises for gardening in the administrative centers of the regions.
On May 31, the newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan" published an announcement from the Office of the Mufti of Turkmenistan on a charitable collection of money for their construction. For this, a special account was opened in the State Commercial Bank "Turkmenistan".
Mosques will be built:
• in the administrative center of the Akhal velayat, the city of Anau;
• in the city of Khazar, Balkan velayat;
• in Ruhubelent etrap of Dashoguz velayat;
• in the Dovletli etrap of the Lebap region;
• in the city of Shatlyk, Oguzkhan etrap, Mary velayat.
In November 2020, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov opened the main mosque of the region in the city of Balkanabat in the Balkan velayat. At that time, TDH reported that four new mosques had been opened in the country in recent years: the main mosques of Mary (2009) and Dashoguz velayats (2015), the mosque in the Ashgabat Parahat-7 microdistrict (2018) and the main mosque of Lebap velayat (2020 year).
