In Ashgabat, at the Ruhyet (Spirituality) Palace, the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took place.
The ceremony was attended by deputies of both chambers of the Turkmen parliament - Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council) and Mejlis Milli Gengesh (National Council), vice-premiers of the Turkmen government, members of the State Security Council, representatives of political parties, public associations, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Ashgabat , representatives of national and foreign media.
To the sounds of a solemn march, the soldiers of the guard of honor brought the State Flag of Turkmenistan, the standard of the President of the country, the Constitution of Turkmenistan, the distinctive sign of the President of Turkmenistan and the Holy Koran into the hall.
Then the floor was given to the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan Gulmyrad Myradov, who informed those present about the results of the nationwide presidential elections held in the country on March 12, 2022. The head of the Central Election Commission said that out of 3 million 460 thousand 80 voters in the whole country, 3 million 362 thousand 52 people voted, which is 97.17 percent. According to the voting results, presidential candidate Serdar Berdimuhamedov won 72.97 percent of the vote and, in accordance with Article 76 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, was recognized as the elected president of Turkmenistan.
According to tradition, a white felt mat was spread in front of the new head of state as a sign of blessing on a bright path and for good deeds, and a Turkmen sachak (bread tablecloth) was presented as a symbol of well-being and prosperity.
After that, the elected President of Turkmenistan, placing his right hand on the Constitution of the country, took an oath of allegiance to the Motherland and people. Then the chairman of the Central Election Commission, on behalf of all citizens of the country, presented Serdar Berdimuhamedov with a certificate of the President of Turkmenistan, and honorary elders representing all regions of the state - a distinctive badge of the president. After that, at the inauguration, it was solemnly announced that, in accordance with the Constitution of the country, the elected president of Turkmenistan took office.
Then the head of the Turkmen state addressed the participants of the ceremony with a speech, talking about the most urgent tasks of his presidential term.
According to him, Turkmenistan will continue the policy of neutrality based on good neighborliness, mutual respect, equality and mutually beneficial cooperation with all states of the world.
He noted that the political platforms of Turkmenistan in international relations remain unchanged, and the state will fully fulfill its international obligations in accordance with the UN Charter, existing bilateral and multilateral treaties, agreements and conventions.
He emphasized that Turkmenistan is open to all countries and peoples of the world and aims to develop trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, scientific and educational ties with them in the future.
In the economy, the Turkmen leader promised to implement a strategy aimed at the large-scale development of the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan and its integration into the international energy system. He also stressed that one of the main directions of the environmental policy of Turkmenistan will be work on minimizing the negative impact of climate change on the environment and human health, as well as reducing emissions into the environment.
Concluding his speech, the head of state noted that for the timely and high-quality implementation of these tasks, it is necessary to mobilize all the possibilities, work in unity and solidarity. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's speech was met with prolonged applause.
At this, the inauguration ceremony ended, and the head of state drove by car, accompanied by an honorary horse escort, to the Oguzhan presidential palace complex, where he received the parade of the guard of honor and units of the armed forces.
After that, the head of state proceeded to the Oguzhan palace complex to begin his duties at the highest state post.
On the same day, in accordance with the Constitution of Turkmenistan, the President signed a decree on the resignation of the government, which was instructed to perform its duties until the formation of a new Cabinet of Ministers.
Also, in honor of the inauguration of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, an official reception was given, and a festive sadaka (ritual meal) was held at the Khezreti Omar mosque in Ashgabat.
In the evening, a concert of popular artists took place on the square in front of the State Tribune. The celebration of the inauguration of the new president of the country ended with colorful fireworks.
