On May 9, the Victory Day was celebrated in Turkmenistan.
On that day, the state news agency TDH published President Serdar Berdimuhamedov 's address to war veterans and the people. However, the flower-laying ceremony at the eternal flame was held by the chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh (upper house of parliament) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .
The event was attended by representatives of the parliament, public organizations, elders and foreign diplomats who gathered at the Halk hakydasy memorial complex.
TDH notes that "the state treats the needs of veterans and their families with special care and attention." It should be noted that Turkmen veterans received 200 manats each (about $10 at the “black market” rate) – many times less than the participants of the Great Patriotic War in other countries of Central Asia.
At the memorial, the ex-president greeted war and labor veterans, as well as all those present, to whom he told several folk wisdom: “He who commemorates the dead gains nobility”, “Remembrance is a great and sacred deed.”
“ Hero-Arkadag expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of the president and on his own behalf to the gray-haired grandmothers and mothers, to all those present,” the state information agency writes.
Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin also congratulated those present on the holiday .
After that, wreaths were laid from Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Then the flowers were laid by veterans, diplomats and other participants of the ceremony.
