Baku: The Western Azerbaijan Community is set to host its second international conference on December 5 and 6, focusing on "The Right of Return - Promoting Justice for Azerbaijanis Forced to Deport from Armenia." This event aims to bring global attention to the plight of Azerbaijanis who were expelled from Armenia, highlighting historical grievances and advocating for their right to return. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a press conference was held at the Western Azerbaijan Community to address media inquiries about the upcoming event. Aziz Alakbarov, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community and a member of parliament, emphasized the significance of the conference in raising international awareness about the forced deportation of Azerbaijanis from Western Azerbaijan. He noted that over the past two centuries, Azerbaijanis have faced ethnic cleansing and deportations, most recently between 1987 and 1991. He expressed optimism that following the victory in Garabagh, the issue of returning to their h istorical lands has gained prominence. Alakbarov highlighted that the conference will see participation from over 100 representatives across more than 50 countries. The event will feature five panels, each with five reports, aiming to further the international dialogue on the right of return to Western Azerbaijan. He described this initiative as a new phase in their ongoing struggle for justice. Gaya Mammadov, another member of the Western Azerbaijan Community and a parliamentarian, remarked on the diverse participation expected at the conference, including deputies, political figures, scientists, and historians from various nations. Mammadov stated that organizing such a conference positions Azerbaijan as a key player in advocating for the right of return on the global stage.
