The results of monitoring over the preparations and organization of the presidential election in Turkmenistan were announced at the press-conferences of international observers, represented by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as well as the CIS election observation mission. The representatives of national and foreign media as well as the members of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan, the Velayat and Ashgabat election commissions attended the press-conferences.
Speaking during the meeting, the heads of the missions expressed gratitude to the leader of Turkmenistan and the Central Elections Commission for the invitation to take part in the important social and political event of the country and expressed with satisfaction that the presidential election in Turkmenistan had been held at the high organizational level, on the alternative basis, in the atmosphere of openness and publicity.
It was noted that the international observers followed the principles of neutrality, non-interference in the internal affairs, and observation of laws of the state of residence, impartiality at assessing the electoral campaign, organization and process of the presidential election. It was also emphasized that the national election legislation had significantly improved within the last years. That is vividly proved by the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan that meets the requirements of the international law in the sphere of democratic elections and stands as a legal foundation to guarantee free and open expression of will of voters.
Speaking about the shortages revealed during the election, the heads of the missions underlined their inessential character, mainly technical one, which had no effect on the legitimacy of the election.
According to the observers, the presidential campaign in Turkmenistan was held in compliance with the ethical standards, politically correct, in a quiet atmosphere. It was noted that the Turkmen people voted for stability and the course pursued by the current leader of Turkmenistan with the aim to improve the social standards of citizens, the further growth of the national economy.
