BAKU: Iran proposes to establish a small and fast-acting secretariat for the implementation of various programs within the framework of the BRICS, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at the summit of BRICS heads of state held in Russia's Kazan, on October 23, Trend reports. He asserts that the foreign ministries of the member states can include the establishment of this secretariat on their agenda. Pezeshkian stated that BRICS member states may prioritize economic and financial issues in the coming years. The member states can increase the pace of building sustainable economic and trade cooperation and utilizing their domestic potential. BRICS, an intergovernmental organization, came into existence in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. Currently, in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the members of the organization are Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Currently, the 16th BRICS Summit is taking place in Kazan on October 22-24 under the Russian Chairmanship-themed Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.
