IsDB allocates $90 million to Turkmenistan for the construction of three cargo ships

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has allocated an additional $90.15 million to Turkmenistan for a project in the field of maritime transport , Islamic Finance News reports .

The publication does not provide other details, but, obviously, we are talking about the construction of three ships: two ro-ro ships ( a cargo ship that transports goods on a wheeled basis - cars, railway cars, trailers, etc. - approx. HT ) and one dry cargo ship .

In March 2022, Turkmenistan applied for $135.25 million in funding from the IDB to cover the cost of the Maritime Transport Development Project. It is not clear whether the bank agreed to allocate 90.15 million of the requested amount or if Turkmenistan will receive this money in addition to the previously requested $135 million.

In addition to the IDB, the construction of ships is also co-financed by the OPEC International Development Fund, which allocated $45 million to Turkmenistan a year ago.
