BAKU: The Israeli think tank has appealed to the US Congress in connection with Azerbaijan, the State Committee for Diaspora Affairs of Azerbaijan told Trend. 'We, the board members of the Dona Gracia Center for Diplomacy, strongly condemn the initiative of the US Congress to provide financial aid to Armenian separatists,' reads a statement published in the well-known Israeli publication Economic Peace Center in connection with the bill introduced in the US Congress by Congressman Adam Schiff. The statement calls the bill a unilateral act of discrimination, which completely ignores the plight and deprivation suffered by Azerbaijani IDPs and expresses sympathy for Armenian separatists. The statement also highlights ethnic and religious prejudice as the primary cause of discrimination against Azerbaijan. The appearance of such a document is a violation of human rights and international law and harms the universal values and principles that the US stands for. The bill's author's discriminatory approach, which relies on Armenian lobby groups to support the right of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to return to their homes, is particularly offensive from a moral perspective. The statement notes that those who are now pushing the anti-Azerbaijani initiative were completely silent during ethnic cleansing, including the Khojaly genocide, and they are still silent now as Armenian-planted mines continue to maim and kill civilians. The document urging the US to take a fair stance emphasizes that it would not be difficult to withdraw the biased bill if the interests of this country, as well as peace between the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples, were favored.
