Tokyo: The share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources in Japan is set to reach 100% by 2050, according to Juta Wada, a member of the Climate Change Committee of the Federation of Japan Bar Associations. Wada made this statement during his presentation at the COP29 panel titled "Beyond National Frameworks: Lawyers and Law Societies Raising Ambitions Through Legal Approaches," as reported by APA. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Juta Wada emphasized the need for national and local governments to increase the proportion of electricity derived from renewable sources to at least 50% by 2030. This ambitious goal is part of a broader effort to combat climate change, with a declaration supporting this initiative adopted in 2024. The declaration calls for the creation or enhancement of legal frameworks to promote the use of photovoltaic energy on rooftops and abandoned agricultural land. Wada further stressed the importance of recognizing global warming as a threat to human rights. He urged na tional and local governments, private companies, and citizens to act decisively to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning their efforts with the global commitment to achieving the "1.5°C target."
