The disgraced independent Turkmen journalist Saparmamed Nepeskuliev left Turkmenistan on March 23.
Nepeskuliev was a freelance correspondent for Radio Azatlyk and the publication of the ANT. In July 2015, he was detained in the city of Turkmenbashi. In August of the same year, he was sentenced to three years for possession of Tramadol, a drug prohibited in Turkmenistan.
Later, the UN Working Group declared his arrest arbitrary.
The journalist was released in May 2018, after serving a full term in prison.
Since that time, he was constantly monitored .
