Justice Minister Willing to Ask President to be Investigated

The justice minister says he will propose investigating the president if it is deemed necessary amid the current political fiasco.

Speaking before the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts on Thursday, Minister Kim Hyun-woong discussed his view on the ongoing investigation into the Choi Soon-sil scandal.

While noting that the president is well aware of the gravity of the situation, he told lawmakers that he will make a related request if the need arises.

Kim said that it would be possible to probe the president without restrictions if she voluntarily undergoes investigations. However, asked to discuss his expertise on the issue of raiding the presidential office, the justice minister said that the majority academic opinion is that the top office is protected from search and seizure.
