Kyrgyzstan imposes moratorium on commercial fishing

In order to preserve and increase fish stocks in the state fishery water bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic, guided by Article 71 of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic and Article 8 of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Aquaculture, Fishing and Protection of Aquatic Biological Resources", it is decreed: 1. To declare a temporary ban (moratorium) for three years on commercial fishing, transportation, sale, storage, purchase and export of all fish species inhabiting the lakes Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul, with the exception of catching fish for the purposes of: 1) organizing and conducting recreational and sport fishing; 2) carrying out approved annual planned works on artificial reproduction of fish stocks; 3) carrying out research activities and ichthyologic monitoring of fish stocks. 2. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic shall: - Take measures arising from this Decree, including introduction of relevant amendments to the existing normative legal acts in the field of aquaculture.
