Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev, reporting on the work to the deputies of parliament, spoke about plans to purchase electricity and gas from Turkmenistan. This is reported by the Kyrgyz edition of the Economist.
When asked by one of the deputies whether there would be blackouts in winter, Ibraev spoke about his trip to Turkmenistan last week. According to him, “now there are procedures for concluding an agreement for 2 billion kilowatt-hours and negotiations on the supply of another 350 million cubic meters of gas.”
Speaking about the price, the minister noted that negotiations on this issue are being conducted by his deputy, who is now in Ashgabat.
As previously reported, in the first six months of 2022, Kyrgyzstan purchased 1.7 billion kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan for $45.6 million. In 2021, according to expert estimates , the cost of 1 kWh was 2.05 Kyrgyz soms or $0. 02422. Turkmenistan received $0.02 per kWh, and the remaining $0.00422 was payment to Uzbekistan for transit.
It became known yesterday that Uzbekistan will purchase 4 billion kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan.
